Free Cinema Tickets
Did you know that if you have a disability or illness which means you need assistance to visit the cinema you are eligible to get buy one get one free tickets every time you visit? This means you can take along a friend or carer for free.
Cinema’s by law have to provide reasonable adjustments for the disabled. If you need the help of another person to visit the cinema, that person is allowed to enter for free to give you a helping hand.
Unfortunately not everyone is aware of this. Some cinemas are great and automatically welcome your carer/assistant in free of charge. Other cinemas do not realise they are meant to make all reasonable adjustments to allow disabled visitors to watch their films. Sometimes a quick chat is all thats needed to get your free carer ticket; especially if your disability is obvious such as a wheelchair user. However if your illness or disability is considered invisible you may feel you have to go into far too much detail to explain why you are eligible for the concession. This can feel very awkward and upsetting.
Thankfully though there is a national scheme you can apply for that takes away all the hard work and possible embarrassment of needing to ask for and explain why you need your concessionary carers ticket.
UK Cinema Association CEA Card
Thanks to the UK Cinema Association you can apply for a CEA card. Once you have this card you simply just show it to the cashier and you will get your carers ticket free no questions asked. The card does cost £6 per year but with the average cinema ticket price being between £10 and £15 you are saving money on one visit alone! So it is well worth applying for.
How do I know if I am eligible?
To be eligible to apply for the UK Cinema Association scheme you need to be in receipt of one of the following benefits.
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Attendance Allowance (AA)
- Blind Persons Registration
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
How do I apply?
Day trips can be a little stressful sometimes when you are sick or disabled so it is great that this scheme takes some of that stress away allowing you to kick back and relax.
What film will you be seeing? Enjoy!
